Conquering Yukiko's Castle: Strategies for the Magical Magus in Persona 4 Golden

Yukiko's Castle, the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden, presents a gradual difficulty curve. While early floors are manageable, later levels introduce the formidable Magical Magus, a randomly encountered enemy. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.

Magical Magus Weaknesses and Skills

The Magical Magus's elemental affinities are as follows:

Null Strong Weak
Fire Wind Light

The Magical Magus utilizes primarily fire-based attacks. Therefore, acquiring fire-resistant accessories from golden chests within Yukiko's Castle is crucial. These accessories are beneficial not only for this encounter but also for the final boss battle.

The Magical Magus's dangerous skills include:

  • Agilao: A powerful fire-based spell that deals significantly boosted damage. Guard on the turn preceding its use.
  • Hysterical Slap: A physical attack hitting twice, though less potent than Agilao.

Given the Magical Magus's strengths, it's advisable to have your protagonist utilize light-based attacks while Chie and Yosuke focus on guarding to mitigate damage.

Early-Game Persona with Light Skills

The optimal early-game Persona with a light skill is Archangel. Naturally equipped with Hama (an instant-kill attack against weaknesses), Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a valuable healing skill for the final boss fight. Archangel is a level 11 Persona, readily fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Hama's instant-kill nature makes the Magical Magus significantly easier to defeat. Because of its high success rate against weaknesses, it often results in an immediate victory. Farming the Magical Magus for experience is viable, provided you have sufficient SP recovery items or are willing to enter the final boss battle with depleted SP.
