How To Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

Author : Stella Apr 02,2025

As you delve deeper into the world of *Avowed*, you'll face increasingly tougher foes. To keep up your combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear to match or exceed these enemies' levels is crucial. Let's explore how to enhance your weapons and armor in *Avowed*.

Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

In Avowed, the key to upgrading your weapons and armor lies at the Workbench, as shown above. Each upgrade demands specific materials, which vary depending on the type and Quality of the item you're looking to improve. These materials are typically found scattered throughout the game world or can be crafted. Notably, upgrading an item to a higher Quality requires progressively rarer forms of Adra.

You'll find these Workbenches at Party Camps, which you can establish at any Adra Waystone you encounter in the world. Simply interact with an Adra Waystone and choose to set up a Party Camp. These locations will then appear on your map marked with a tent icon, allowing you to fast travel to them for convenient upgrades.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

In Avowed, the power level of your weapons and armor is measured in two primary ways: Quality and additional upgrades. The Quality system is categorized by a numerical value, a color rarity, and a descriptive adjective. These correspond to the enemy levels you'll encounter in the Living Lands. Gear with a lower color rarity and numerical value than the enemies you're facing will struggle to be effective.

When your gear's Quality falls behind the enemy levels, you'll notice reduced damage output and less effective armor protection. However, there are bonuses to using gear that matches or exceeds enemy levels, making regular upgrades essential for maintaining combat prowess. Here are the different weapon and armor qualities in Avowed:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality, you can further enhance your weapons and armor through three additional upgrade tiers, marked as +0 through +3. While these upgrades may not be as impactful as changing the Quality, they still significantly boost your gear's stats. Importantly, you must complete all three additional upgrades within a Quality before you can elevate the item to the next Quality level.

Avowed Weapon and Armor Additional Upgrades Explained

Each Quality level of your gear offers three additional upgrade tiers, labeled +0 through +3. These upgrades enhance the stats of your weapons and armor, though not as dramatically as a Quality increase. Remember, you'll need to max out these additional upgrades before you can advance to the next Quality.

Which Weapons and Armor Should You Upgrade in Avowed?

Beyond Quality and additional upgrades, Avowed categorizes gear into standard and Unique types. Standard weapons and armor are plentiful and can be found as loot or bought from Merchants. In contrast, Unique gear consists of named, special items often obtained through Main or Side Quests, dropped by bosses or bounties, or occasionally available from select Merchants.

Unique weapons and armor can be upgraded to Legendary Quality, surpassing the Superb limit of standard gear. Moreover, Unique items come with additional bonuses and perks not found on standard gear. Therefore, it's advisable to focus your resources on upgrading Unique gear, using standard items as temporary solutions until you can enhance your Unique equipment. Standard gear should be sold for Skeyt or dismantled for resources to further upgrade your Unique weapons and armor.

And that's the guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor in Avowed. Keep your gear sharp and your armor strong to conquer the challenges ahead!

Avowed is available now on PC and Xbox.
