Analysts Predict Massive Switch 2 Sales at Launch, June Release Eyed

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a hot topic in the gaming world, with analysts predicting a launch price around $400. A recent Bloomberg report, citing Japan-focused analysts, supports this price range. However, some analysts suggest that Nintendo might even set the price at $499. Despite the higher cost, experts believe the Switch 2 will have a massive launch, potentially the biggest console launch ever, driven by strong demand.

"They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg.

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch is largely due to its impressive lineup of games. Toto expects a new Mario Kart, a new 3D Mario game, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 to be released within the first year. Additionally, third-party support is expected to be robust, with titles like Call of Duty from Activision on the horizon.

There's a long list of rumored third-party titles for the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis found the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed they have games ready for the Switch 2. The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be coming to the platform. Last month, EA expressed interest in bringing Madden, FC, and The Sims to the Switch 2.

It's worth noting that Activision has yet to announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the Bloomberg report.

The expected release date for the Switch 2 is June 2025, according to Japan-based analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein. Zhu predicts an initial stock of 6-8 million units, which, if sold out quickly, could see the Switch 2 outselling its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new records.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war on the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration's tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico could affect the price and availability of video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg noted that the Switch 2 will be assembled in Vietnam and China, which could mitigate these risks due to diversified manufacturing.

While much remains unknown about the Switch 2, Nintendo plans to reveal more during a Direct on April 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed in January with a brief trailer confirming backwards compatibility and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as other games and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse theory has gained traction, and a Nintendo patent suggests that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down, using magnets instead of rails. This could allow players to customize button placement and potentially introduce new gameplay mechanics.
