Assassin’s Creed Shadows Playthrough Duration Revealed
Main Campaign Will Be Around 30-40 Hours
Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) promises a robust main campaign, clocking in at around 30-40 hours of gameplay. This revelation came during the AC Shadows’ Showcase Event in Kyoto, where Genki Gamer had the opportunity to discuss the game with Creative Director Johnathan Dumont.
Dumont highlighted that the main campaign will take approximately 30-40 hours to complete, with an additional 80+ hours of engaging side content for players to explore. In response to player feedback, the development team is considering the inclusion of a New Game+ mode, a feature that was notably absent in AC Valhalla and left many fans wanting more.
The game also boasts a dynamic world featuring changing seasons and weather systems, along with new gameplay mechanics and a highly customizable hideout. AC Shadows will introduce a fresh Animus story that sets the stage for future entries in the Assassin’s Creed series.
Working on a Japanese-themed Assassin’s Creed Game
Dumont shared the team's passion for crafting a game set in Japan, a dream project that has finally come to fruition. He emphasized the importance of capturing the natural movement and beauty of Japan, now achievable with the latest technology and a compelling narrative.
The game draws inspiration from iconic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and works by Kurosawa, yet it maintains the distinctive Assassin’s Creed flair. Dumont acknowledged the ongoing online discussions, particularly around the inclusion of Yasuke, the black samurai, a figure that has sparked debate due to his historical significance in Japan.
Despite the controversies, Dumont reassured fans that the team's primary focus remains on delivering an exceptional gaming experience, especially for their Japanese audience.
Deep Dive Into The Hideout
Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu
On March 5, 2025, AC Shadows provided an in-depth look into the Hideout's features and mechanics on their official website. Nestled in the secret valley of Izumi Settsu province, the Hideout will serve as the players’ central hub as they work to strengthen the Brotherhood in the region.
Dany, the Systems Associate Director for AC Shadows, described the Hideout as an ambitious project. "After fortresses, villas, homesteads, pirate coves, café-theatres, moving trains, ships, settlements, and assassin bureaus, we knew we had to push the boundaries further," he stated. "We wanted to give players the freedom to build their homebase as they see fit."
Players will receive an acre of land to customize, allowing them to arrange buildings, pavilions, pathways, and local flora and fauna to their liking. Dany added, "We want players to make the Hideout truly their own. As you progress through the game, new customization options unlock, reflecting your journey and achievements."
A League of Your Own
The Hideout will not only be a customizable space but also a living community. Various characters, each with their own backstories and challenges, will reside here, contributing to the player's mission. These characters will interact with the environment based on the placement of buildings and areas, such as warriors spending time in the Dojo or enjoying sake in the Zashiki.
This setup fosters new dialogue and interactions between characters, making the Hideout a vibrant and dynamic space. Dany emphasized, "Having our allies in one place creates opportunities for rich character development. We brought together writers from four different studios worldwide to craft interactions inspired by scenarios like, 'What would happen if these two characters suddenly became roommates?' The result is a Hideout that feels like the beating heart of the league."
With its detailed features and mechanics, Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to deliver an authentic Japanese experience wrapped in the beloved Assassin’s Creed gameplay.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on March 20, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates and in-depth coverage by checking out our article below!
