Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later

Author : Michael May 26,2025

The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, a recipient of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an exciting second season. The show's star, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the character of pilot John Blackthorn, has not only confirmed his return but will also step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2, as announced in an official press release from FX.

Joining him, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, signed on for the new season last May following the show's renewal. Initially conceived as a limited series, Sanada's involvement has now expanded to include the position of executive producer, a role he took on during the original run. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.

FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s renowned novel. The network provided insight into the narrative bridge between the two seasons, stating:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of *Shōgun* is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."

With anticipation building, fans are eagerly awaiting new episodes, which are hoped to premiere by the end of 2026. For now, all we can do is wait and keep our fingers crossed for the return of this stellar series.
