Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare

Dead by Daylight's Nightmare Gets a Much-Needed Overhaul

Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is receiving a significant rework in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. This update addresses long-standing player concerns about his underpowered status, aiming to make him a more competitive and thematically accurate Killer.

The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare far greater tactical flexibility. This enhanced maneuverability is further bolstered by significant power adjustments:

  • Dream Snares: Now travel at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges), with a 5-second cooldown. Interactions vary depending on whether the Survivor is asleep or awake; sleeping Survivors are hindered for 4 seconds, while awake Survivors receive a 30-second Sleep Meter increase.

  • Dream Pallets: Can be triggered to explode, dealing damage and affecting the Sleep Meter differently for asleep and awake Survivors. A sleeping Survivor will be injured, while an awake Survivor gains 60 seconds on their Sleep Timer. The explosion has a 3-meter radius and a 1.5-second delay.

The Nightmare's teleportation ability has also been refined. He can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) within the Dream World. Furthermore, teleporting to a healing Survivor will place him within 12 meters, revealing nearby Survivors with Killer Instinct and adding 15 seconds to their Sleep Meter. The teleport cooldown is reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, and cancellation is no longer possible. Healing Survivors in the Dream World will continuously be revealed by Killer Instinct (lingering for 3 seconds after stopping). Additionally, sleeping Survivors can now use any Alarm Clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown after use.

Several Add-Ons are also being adjusted to encourage creative Killer builds. However, The Nightmare's perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged, potentially to maintain thematic consistency.

Key Rework Notes:

  • [CHANGE] Swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets via Active Ability.
  • [NEW] Dream Snares: 12 m/s speed, 5-second cooldown, wall and stair traversal, unique awake/asleep interactions.
  • [NEW] Dream Pallets: Explosive function, varying effects based on Survivor state.
  • [NEW] Teleportation to completed, blocked, endgame generators, and healing Survivors. Teleporting to a healing Survivor reveals nearby Survivors.
  • [CHANGE] Teleport cooldown reduced to 30 seconds; cancellation removed.
  • [NEW] Continuous Killer Instinct reveal on healing Survivors in the Dream World.
  • [CHANGE] Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock.
  • [NEW] 45-second Alarm Clock cooldown.

These changes aim to significantly improve The Nightmare's viability and gameplay experience, bringing him more in line with other Killers in Dead by Daylight's current meta. While the exact release date is unannounced, these mechanics are currently available on the Public Test Build (PTB).
