We Got a GTA 6 Delay Before GTA 6

Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for GTA 6, but fans will have to wait a bit longer as the game has been delayed until 2026. Dive into the details of this decision and explore its impact on other game launches.

GTA 6 Release Date Announced

Coming on May 26, 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has been eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide, especially since the first trailer was released. After years of silence, Rockstar Games finally broke the news on May 2 via a Twitter (X) post: GTA 6 is now set to launch on May 26, 2026. This announcement came as a surprise, particularly after Take-Two Interactive hinted during their Q3 2025 earnings call that the game would be released in Fall 2025.

Rockstar Games issued an apology for the delay and expressed gratitude for fans' patience, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a high-quality experience. They stated, "We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." The developer promised to share more information soon.

Take-Two Interactive Fully Supports Rockstar Games’ Decision

Take-Two Interactive has voiced full support for Rockstar Games' decision to delay GTA 6. On May 2, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick released a statement on their website, expressing his thoughts on the shift in GTA 6’s launch schedule. He remarked, "We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations."

This change aligns well with their earlier statements about potential close releases of their titles. Just last week, Gearbox Entertainment announced that Borderlands 4 would launch two weeks earlier. Speculation arose that this move was influenced by GTA 6’s release window, given that both games fall under Take-Two Interactive. However, Gearbox clarified that Borderlands 4's new launch date was not influenced by other game releases.

Despite these shifts in release dates, Take-Two remains steadfast in their commitment to excellence, stating, "As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders."

Devolver Digital Remains Adamant in Releasing a Game Same Day with GTA 6

In a bold move, Devolver Digital, the publisher behind Cult of the Lambs, decided to stick to their plan of releasing a game on the same day as GTA 6. On May 2, they announced via Twitter (X) that their game would also launch on May 26, 2026, stating, "You can’t escape us."

Back in March, Devolver Digital declared their intention to release a game simultaneously with GTA 6. They have yet to reveal which game will go head-to-head with GTA 6, as they have several potential sequels in their lineup, including Cult of the Lambs, Enter the Gungeon, Hotline Miami, and more, or perhaps even a new IP.

Meanwhile, other developers and publishers are opting to avoid GTA 6’s release window. According to The Game Business Show in March, several anonymous game executives indicated their readiness to delay their games to steer clear of GTA 6's launch.

Despite the delay, fans remain excited about the upcoming chapter in Rockstar Games’ expansive open-world action-adventure series. Grand Theft Auto VI is now slated for release on May 26, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the game by checking out our article below!
