This month, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the climactic finale of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Released on May 19, 2005, this film marked the last Star Wars movie directed by George Lucas before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
Anticipation was high as fans knew that Revenge of the Sith would showcase Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. However, another pressing question loomed: what became of the other Jedi? The film introduced Order 66, a sinister plot orchestrated by Palpatine. This command turned the loyal Clone Troopers against the Jedi, leading to a devastating purge. Given the vast number of Jedi at the time, it was plausible that some managed to evade this fate, beyond the few who were crucial for the continuity of the Original Trilogy.
Among the numerous Jedi who survived Order 66 and have been introduced in canon Star Wars narratives, we've compiled a list of the top 10 survivors who've left a significant mark. These Jedi's survival ranged from brief to prolonged, with some fates still shrouded in mystery. Yet, each of these Jedi lived to see another day after Palpatine's chilling command to "Execute Order 66."
To clarify, our criteria stipulate that these characters must have been part of the Jedi Order before Order 66, regardless of whether they were a Padawan, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master, or even a young Jedi Initiate. This excludes Force-users like Maul and his former Master, Palpatine, as well as individuals like Jod Na Nawood, who, despite receiving some Jedi training, were never officially part of the Order.
There was some debate regarding Asajj Ventress's inclusion. Trained by Jedi Ky Narec on Rattatak for over 20 years, Ventress was declared his Padawan. However, she never visited Coruscant or met the Jedi Council during her training, and later turned to the Dark Side under Dooku. This makes her status as a Jedi somewhat ambiguous, so we've listed her as an honorable mention.
