Capcom Unveils Enhanced Onimusha: Way of the Sword Details for 2026 Release

Capcom has released fresh details about the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for a 2026 launch. The game promises visceral combat in iconic Kyoto locations, boasting an overhauled battle system and a brand-new hero.

Central to the experience is the refined feel of wielding a blade. Developers aim for realistic swordplay, introducing novel Genma enemies and dual-weapon combat options, including the formidable Omni Gauntlet. The core gameplay mechanic emphasizes the satisfying brutality of dismembering foes. Battles will be intense, with a soul absorption system providing health regeneration and access to special abilities. While some trailer versions may omit gore and dismemberment, Capcom confirms these features will be fully present in the final game.

Building upon Onimusha's established aesthetic, the game incorporates dark fantasy elements and leverages "Capcom's latest technology" for an optimized gaming experience.

Key features include:

  • A new protagonist and compelling cast of characters: Expect memorable enemies with unique designs and personalities.
  • Edo Period Setting (1603-1868): The action unfolds in Kyoto, a city rich in historical landmarks steeped in mysterious lore.
  • Oni Gauntlet Power: The protagonist, empowered by faith, wields the Oni gauntlet, battling monstrous entities and absorbing their souls for health and special moves.
  • Historical Figures: Expect encounters with real historical figures woven into the narrative.
  • Real-time Sword Combat: The developers have prioritized the player's enjoyment of devastating enemies in fluid, real-time sword fights.

Prepare for a thrilling return to the Onimusha universe in 2026.
