Amazon still has some retired LEGO sets available for purchase, including the highly detailed, to-scale R2-D2 set, which was retired in January 2025. You can currently snag it for $221.27, which is 8% off the original price. The Star Wars franchise and LEGO have been partners since 1999, offering sets ranging from simple playsets for kids to elaborate models perfect for display. This R2-D2 set falls into the latter category, making it an excellent addition to any Star Wars enthusiast's collection.
Although this set saw a discount during Star Wars Day, it's unlikely to remain below MSRP for long.
Retired LEGO R2-D2 Is Still Available at Amazon
-----------------------------------------------LEGO R2-D2
Originally priced at $239.99, you can now save 8% and get it for $221.27 at Amazon. This 2,315-piece set is the most detailed R2-D2 model LEGO has ever released. When it first came out, IGN had the opportunity to build it and found the experience delightful. Standing over a foot tall, you can pose R2 in various positions, and it includes all the iconic features from the movies. The third leg is retractable, the front hatches open and close, and the periscope extends from R2's head. LEGO's meticulous attention to detail ensures that every color, wire, tube, and light on R2's body is as screen-accurate as possible. If you manage to grab this set before it's gone, it will complement some of the best LEGO Star Wars sets available for building in 2025.
R2-D2's most recent on-screen appearance was in 2021 in "The Book of Boba Fett" episode 6, titled "From the Desert Comes a Stranger." This episode is notable for featuring a CGI de-aged Luke Skywalker, the first and last live-action appearance of bounty hunter Cad Bane, and, of course, our beloved astromech droid. We rated this episode a seven, noting that it focuses more on "The Mandalorian" and nostalgic Star Wars elements than on its protagonist.
