As with any major online multiplayer game, particularly those that bring together huge numbers of players in a single session, few things are more frustrating than server instability. Warzone, unfortunately, experiences its share of these problems. This guide will help you stay informed by explaining how to check the game's server status.

Last updated on January 14, 2025, by Max Candelarezi: Following certain updates, server-related troubles in Call of Duty: Warzone can lead to disruptions, crashes, or matchmaking glitches. Knowing the current server status and determining if the problem is widespread or local is essential for any player. This guide has been refreshed and now includes a dedicated section on server status (Are Warzone Servers Down?), prompted by a minor issue introduced with a recent patch. That issue impacted matchmaking, either blocking access to game modes entirely or significantly extending wait times to find a match.

How to Check the Server Status for Call of Duty: Warzone

If you suspect Warzone's servers are having problems, you can use a few reliable methods to identify the issue and find a solution.

Check the Activision Support Online Services Status

The most direct method is to visit the official Activision Support Online Services website. This page offers real-time status updates for all Call of Duty titles, including Warzone. If there are any known issues, the site will show detailed information, such as maintenance schedules or reports of isolated problems.

Monitor the COD Updates Social Media Account

Call of Duty uses the COD Updates account on Twitter/X as a direct communications channel with players. This account provides prompt reports on issues, errors, updates, and scheduled maintenance for Warzone and other CoD games. In the event of server outages or maintenance, COD Updates shares timely information to keep the community informed.

Current Warzone Server Status: Are They Down?

As of January 13, 2025, Call of Duty: Warzone servers are operational. While a minor issue emerged following a patch released that day, which disrupted the matchmaking system and prevented players from joining any game mode, the developers resolved it swiftly.

The team quickly acknowledged the problem via their social media accounts, explaining that the patch could cause excessively long matchmaking times or block game access due to a matchmaking hang. They assured players this was a temporary issue and fixed it within a few hours. The problem has now been resolved, with additional fixes in place to address other in-game troubles. Players can once again enter matches without interruption.

How to Fix Warzone Connectivity Issues

If you encounter connectivity problems while trying to play Call of Duty: Warzone, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Check for Updates: Playing on an outdated game version can lead to connection or access failures. To prevent this, open the Call of Duty app on your platform, look for an "Update" or "Search for Update" option, and ensure your game is current. If an update is available, download and install it for smooth gameplay.
  • Restart Warzone: Close the game completely and return to your platform's main menu. Then, launch Warzone again. A simple restart can often clear up minor glitches, especially after a seasonal update or playlist change.
  • Check Your Router Connection: To rule out problems with your local network, inspect your router or modem to confirm it's functioning correctly. If indicator lights are off or blinking erratically, perform a power cycle (unplug for 30 seconds, then plug back in) to address issues like loose cables or temporary disruptions.
  • Test Your Network Connection: After restarting your router, or even before you do, run a network connection test on your console or PC. This check, whether you're on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, helps identify if the problem originates from your end.
  • Swap Connection Methods: If you're on Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired Ethernet connection for better stability and reduced interference. Conversely, if you're on Ethernet, testing a Wi-Fi connection might yield better results depending on your specific network setup and current conditions.
