Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Surges After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has rolled out its eagerly anticipated final patch, marking the end of its monumental journey. Released on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, Patch 8 is the last major update for the RPG. The finality of this update has sparked a significant increase in player numbers, propelling BG3 just outside Steam’s top 10 most played games. Previously hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, the game now boasts over 169,000 players as of the latest count.
Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, celebrated the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, crediting their robust mod support for freeing up resources to focus on their next project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios will move away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to embark on a new venture.
In light of this, D&D's owners, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, will continue the Baldur’s Gate saga without Larian Studios. They are currently exploring partnerships with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!
Patch 8, first announced in a November 2024 Steam blog post, has been a long time coming. It introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and a host of other features. The developers provided a detailed breakdown of the patch on BG3’s official website. Compared to the November 2024 update, Patch 8 includes an extensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring a polished final experience for players.
Larian Studios has gone all out to enhance BG3, evident in the comprehensive updates and fixes for the game's final version. While this marks their last major patch, Larian remains committed to supporting the modding community.
