The developers of The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red, have issued a stern warning to fans about a scam involving fake beta test invites circulating on the internet. The alert was shared on The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account on April 16, 2025, following community reports of deceptive invitations purporting to offer access to a beta test for the highly anticipated game.

CD Projekt Red emphasized their efforts to remove these fraudulent messages and urged players to report any suspicious invites using the reporting tools available on their email clients or social media platforms. They reassured fans that any official beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher's official channels, ensuring transparency and authenticity.

The Witcher 4 made headlines when it was first announced at the Game Awards in December 2024, with a trailer showcasing Ciri as the new protagonist. This shift from Geralt, the series' long-standing hero, sparked widespread discussion among fans. The move to feature Ciri as the lead character represents a bold new direction for the franchise.

In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed fan reactions to Ciri's new role. He acknowledged the attachment to Geralt but reassured fans that the team is committed to creating a compelling narrative with Ciri at the helm. Weber noted, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The developers have described The Witcher 4 as the most ambitious installment in the series yet, promising new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced.
