Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

Author : Carter Feb 18,2025

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, "Grand Taking Ages," are back on Steam after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. This management simulator, where players run a game development studio, initially launched on PlayStation with AI-generated art and a May 2025 release date. However, Sony swiftly removed it.

Grand Taking Ages Steam Page

Now, following significant revisions, "Grand Taking Ages" (the "VI" has been dropped) has received Steam approval. Developer Violarte made key changes, including a new logo, descriptions, and art style to better distinguish it from Rockstar's GTA 6, while still maintaining a clear parody. The updated Steam page features a new trailer and screenshots emphasizing the parody aspect.

Despite the changes, generative AI remains a core component. Violarte disclosed the use of AI services for voiceovers, as per Steam's guidelines, a fact clearly evident in the trailer. The Steam page description now reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging with their team before submission to ensure compliance with their guidelines, a strategy different from their PlayStation Store attempt. They cite other projects, such as "Grand Theft Hamlet," as precedents for parody protection.

Despite Steam's approval, Violarte aims to return to the PlayStation Store, citing the Steam approval as evidence of the game's revised suitability. They've submitted a request to Sony, highlighting the changes made.

The incident highlights the contrasting approaches of Sony and Valve to content curation. While Sony's process was questioned, Steam's more open policy is well-known. The proliferation of games, including those using AI, on platforms like Steam, app stores, and the Nintendo eShop, is undeniable. Meanwhile, the actual GTA 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
