Hopetown Unveiled: The New Disco Elysium Spiritual Successor

Author : Layla May 25,2025

Hopetown, a groundbreaking nonlinear RPG crafted by Longdue Games, introduces a refreshing perspective on narrative-driven gameplay. Established by former employees of renowned studios like ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, Longdue Games has unveiled the first glimpse of the game's innovative mechanics. Positioned as a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium, Hopetown promises a deeply immersive experience. The storyline follows a journalist who wakes up in a mining town after a night of heavy drinking. Battling a severe hangover, players are tasked with reconstructing the events of the previous night while navigating an escalating local conflict. Choices made by the player can either soothe tensions or exacerbate them, adding a layer of strategic decision-making to the gameplay.

Screenshots showcase a dialogue-rich experience where player choices play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative. The game offers a variety of archetypes, each providing distinct dialogue options and approaches to interactions. For instance, when engaging with an elderly woman feeding pigeons, players can choose different tones, which can dramatically change the course of the conversation and subsequent outcomes.

Longdue Games is gearing up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to further fund the development of Hopetown, with a dedicated page already live on the platform. Although a specific release date remains undisclosed, the anticipation among fans of narrative-centric RPGs is palpable.

Hopetown isn't the only game taking cues from Disco Elysium. Two other studios, Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal, are also developing their own psychological RPGs, adding to the growing genre of thought-provoking gaming experiences.
