A modder has developed a fix for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers PC players dissatisfied with the controversial changes implemented in Patch 1.5.
Last month, developer Leenzee Games assured players that various performance and optimization issues would be addressed. While Patch 1.5 did resolve many technical problems, it unexpectedly modified numerous enemy behaviors, dialogue sequences, and narrative elements.
Before this update, players could target and eliminate certain passive human NPCs throughout the game world. These actions impacted the protagonist's "madness" mechanic – a feature now removed as NPCs have become invulnerable. Additionally, combat encounters with bosses now conclude with "exhaustion" rather than lethal outcomes.
The gaming community has voiced strong objections to these alterations, flooding Steam forums and review sections with criticism. Within days of the patch's release, a dedicated modder created a comprehensive restoration mod reverting the game to its pre-update 1.4.1 state.
"Patch 1.5 significantly diminishes the game's experience," the modder explained. "High-level encounters now end with trivial exchanges instead of meaningful story progression from the original version."
The mod creator acknowledges their solution involves "complex file modifications" and suggests supplementary mods like Fast Vertical Traversal, Improved Recovery, and Fast Item Pick Up for players wanting quality-of-life improvements without the narrative changes.
Set during the chaotic late Ming Dynasty, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike adventure where players control a cursed warrior battling supernatural threats in the collapsing Shu Kingdom.
IGN's review awarded the game 8/10, praising its "exceptional combat system, masterful level design, robust skill progression, and memorable boss encounters," while noting occasional difficulty spikes and reliance on enemy ambushes.
