Dynasty Warriors: Origins Features More Formidable Enemies
Programmed To "Go And Kill The Player"

Dynasty Warriors: Origins intensifies the action with tougher and more powerful enemies, following the directive of producer Tomohiko Sho. He gave his team a straightforward command: "This time, go and kill the player."
In an interview with PlayStation.Blog, Producer Sho shared behind-the-scenes insights from the game's development. The decision to introduce stronger opponents was aimed at creating a "sense of realism"—after all, not just the player character is fighting for survival on the battlefield; enemy soldiers and generals are also battling for their lives.

Despite the increased difficulty, Sho ensured the game avoids being unfairly hard, instead offering rewarding challenges that give players a genuine sense of accomplishment. "Even if you're not that skilled at action games, learning step-by-step lets you play comfortably and feel successful." He acknowledged that balancing the series' signature "musou" thrill—the exhilaration of defeating countless enemies—with the gritty realism of a war-torn battlefield was a major creative challenge.
Returning To Its "Origins"

One notable difference in Origins is the absence of the numbered title typically associated with Dynasty Warriors games. Had it followed tradition, this entry would have been named Dynasty Warriors 10. This makes Dynasty Warriors: Origins the first main series title without a number.
Furthermore, the "Origins" subtitle underscores the game's exclusive focus on the first half of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, unlike previous titles that covered the entire narrative. In a separate interview with TheGamer at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Sho clarified that Origins only covers events up to the Battle of Chibi, also known as the Battle of the Red Cliffs. "We wanted to tell this part of the story with depth and intensity; it's one of the epic highlights, so we're concentrating solely on this segment."

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the first mainline entry in the franchise in seven years. The series is inspired by the Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which blends fictional and historical accounts of events during China's Han Dynasty. Origins follows an original protagonist, the Nameless Hero, on his journey across a vast land where rival factions vie for control.
Released on January 17th, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
