2XKO Alpha Playtest: Addressing Player Feedback and Refining Gameplay

The 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest, only four days old, has already generated significant player feedback. This article details how 2XKO plans to address these concerns.
Gameplay Refinements Based on Player Feedback
2XKO director, Shaun Rivera, announced via Twitter (X) that the game will be adjusted based on playtest feedback. The League of Legends-based game attracted a large player base, resulting in numerous online comments and clips showcasing devastating, and arguably unfair, combos.
Rivera acknowledged the "really creative" combos, but noted that excessively long combos with minimal opponent control are undesirable. A key change will be reducing the frequency of "Touch of Death" (TOD) combos—instant kills from full health. While maintaining the fast-paced action, the developers aim for balanced and engaging matches. While some TODs were expected, the team is analyzing data and feedback to ensure they remain exceptional outcomes requiring significant skill.

The Tutorial Mode has also received criticism. While the game is easy to learn, mastering its complexities proves challenging. The lack of skill-based matchmaking in the playtest exacerbated this, pitting novices against experienced players. Professional player Christopher "NYChrisG" described 2XKO as potentially not for everyone, citing its complex six-button system and intricate gameplay. Rivera confirmed that the tutorial will be significantly improved, acknowledging its current limitations. A Reddit post by a tutorial team member actively solicits player feedback for improvements, with suggestions including adopting structures similar to Guilty Gear Strive and Street Fighter 6.
Enthusiastic Player Response

Despite the criticism, many players enjoy the game. Professional player William "Leffen" Hjelte streamed 19 hours of 2XKO, and the game attracted thousands of Twitch viewers, peaking at 60,425 on the first day.
While still in closed alpha with no release date, 2XKO shows strong potential, supported by its impressive viewership and extensive player feedback, indicating a passionate community is already forming. Interested in participating? See the linked article for registration details.
