CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the inclusion of brand-new regions and monsters in The Witcher 4 during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Exploring Uncharted Territories in The Witcher 4
Unveiling Stromford and the Terrifying Bauk
Following The Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris on December 14th, 2024. The discussion revealed exciting details about the upcoming title's expansion into uncharted territories.
While Ciri continues the Witcher legacy, her journey will take players to previously unexplored areas of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the reveal trailer as Stromford, a place where a chilling ritual of child sacrifice is performed to appease a terrifying entity.
This entity, revealed to be a monster named Bauk, draws inspiration from Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky bastard" whose presence instills profound fear in its victims. And Bauk isn't alone; players can anticipate encountering a diverse array of new monsters.
Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for the new locations and creatures but remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15th, 2024, further confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the regions explored by Geralt.
Enhanced NPC Interactions and Immersive Detail
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted CD Projekt Red's commitment to enhancing NPC interactions. Parris noted the improved diversity in the new trailer compared to The Witcher 3's repeated character models. Kalemba confirmed that each NPC will have their own unique story and life, influenced by their community within the isolated village.
The team is also improving NPC visual fidelity, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these revelations promise significantly improved NPC interactions and a more believable, interconnected world.
