Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Controversial Nerfs Reverted in Hotfix 4.1
Following significant player backlash, Saber Interactive is swiftly reversing the nerfs introduced in Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0. The changes, deemed too impactful by the community, will be undone in the upcoming hotfix 4.1, launching October 24th. This decision comes after a wave of negative Steam reviews and widespread criticism.
The developer's response includes not only the reversion of nerfs but also the announcement of planned public test servers, slated for early 2025. This proactive measure aims to gather player feedback before major updates launch, preventing future controversies.
Game director Dmitriy Grigorenko acknowledged the community's concerns, stating that the "most pressing" balance changes from Patch 4.0 will be reverted. The original intention behind Patch 4.0 was to increase enemy numbers, rather than boosting enemy health, to increase difficulty. However, this approach proved to negatively impact lower difficulty levels.
Hotfix 4.1 will specifically address these issues:
- Enemy Spawns: Extremis enemy spawn rates will return to pre-Patch 4.0 levels on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties and will be significantly reduced on Ruthless difficulty.
- Player Armor: A 10% armor increase for players on Ruthless difficulty.
- Bot AI: Bots will now deal 30% more damage to bosses.
- Bolt Weapon Buff: A comprehensive buff to the entire Bolt weapon family, addressing their previous underperformance. Specific damage increases range from 5% to 20%, affecting various Bolt Rifles, Carbines, and the Heavy Bolter. (See detailed breakdown below)
Bolt Weapon Damage Increases (Hotfix 4.1):
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)
Saber Interactive plans to closely monitor player feedback following the release of Patch 4.1 to ensure the "Lethal" difficulty remains appropriately challenging and rewarding. The implementation of public test servers in 2025 demonstrates a commitment to a more collaborative development process.
