Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has responded to community backlash over the Dawn of the Hunt update with a series of emergency changes aimed at addressing player concerns. The update, which was released earlier this month, introduced the new Huntress class, five new ascension classes, numerous unique items, and expanded crafting options. However, it also included nerfs that significantly slowed down the game's pace, leading to a wave of negative reviews on Steam.
The community's dissatisfaction was palpable, with players describing the game as a "total slog" due to longer boss fights, reduced skill damage, and overall slower gameplay. One of the most helpful recent reviews on Steam highlighted these issues, stating that the game felt "incredibly awful" and unstable. Other players echoed these sentiments, expressing frustration over the forced combo gameplay and the reduced loot drop rates.
In response, GGG has rolled out the 0.2.0e update, set to launch on April 11, with a focus on improving the game's pacing and addressing player feedback. The patch notes for this update are as follows:
Monster Speed Changes
GGG has made adjustments to monster behavior across different acts to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. Key changes include removing interrupt events on certain monsters' attacks and modifying the Haste Aura modifier.
Act 1: Adjustments to Werewolf and Tendril Prowlers, Hungering Stalkers, Bloom Serpents, Venomous Crabs, Cultists, and Blood Cretins to reduce their speed and density.
Act 2: Replaced Boulder Ants with Risen Maraketh in Titan Valley and modified Faridun behavior.
Act 3: Changes to Diretusk Boar and Antlion Charger's behavior, adjustments to the Lost City and Azak Bog monster compositions, and fixes to Slitherspitter's damage type.
GGG also acknowledged an issue with inconsistent monster spawn density, which will be addressed in a future patch.
Boss Changes
- Adjustments to Viper Napuatzi's Chaos Rains and Uxmal's fight mechanics to make them less frustrating. Xyclucian's arena has been cleared of ground foliage to improve visibility.
Player Minion Changes
- Revamped minion revive timers to prevent repeated long waits and improved the functionality of Bind Spectre and Tame Beast gems.
Other Player Balance
- Expanded the usability of Rally support, fixed issues with Glory consumption, and corrected a bug with the Ritualist ascendancy's Blood Boils.
Crafting Changes
- Completed the addition of mods to runes for caster weapons and introduced a new mechanic at Renly's shop for obtaining elemental runes.
Performance Improvements
- Optimized ground foliage to enhance performance.
The 0.2.0e update is set to deploy at 10AM NZT, with additional changes planned for a post-weekend patch. These include enhancements to the charm system, the introduction of Stash Tab Affinities, and the addition of Atlas Bookmarks for easier navigation.
The question now is whether these changes will be sufficient to alleviate the community's concerns and restore positive sentiment toward Path of Exile 2. Despite the initial success of the game's launch, which was hampered by server issues due to high player volume, GGG's response to player feedback will be crucial in maintaining the game's popularity and ensuring its continued development alongside Path of Exile 1.
