Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in mods and the possibility of future DLC.
Initially, the development team considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release. However, prioritizing the completion of the trilogy's final installment ultimately led them to forgo this for now. Hamaguchi stated that focusing resources on the final game is their "highest priority." However, he left the door open, indicating that significant player demand could influence future decisions regarding additional content. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he stated.
Regarding the modding community, Hamaguchi expressed respect for their creativity while urging responsible modding practices. While the game doesn't have official mod support, the team acknowledges the inevitable interest from modders. They specifically requested that modders refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The PC version boasts several enhancements over the original PS5 release. These include improved lighting rendering (addressing previous "uncanny valley" criticisms regarding character faces), higher-resolution 3D models and textures for more powerful PCs, and adjustments to mini-games to ensure optimal PC controls. These improvements aim to provide a superior gaming experience.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
