Capcom's Global Vision for Monster Hunter Wilds -----------------------------------------------------------------------------A New Era of Hunting Grounds
Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds boldly reimagines the franchise, transforming its iconic hunts into a vibrant, interconnected world with a dynamic, ever-evolving ecosystem.
At Summer Game Fest, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda detailed Wilds' innovative approach. The emphasis is on seamless gameplay and an immersive environment directly responding to player actions.
Players once again assume the role of hunters in an uncharted territory brimming with new creatures and resources. However, the Summer Game Fest demo showcased a major shift from the series' traditional mission structure. Wilds features a truly seamless open world, allowing unrestricted exploration, hunting, and environmental interaction.
"The seamless nature of the game is central to Wilds' design," Fujioka explained. "We aimed to create detailed, immersive ecosystems demanding a seamless world filled with freely huntable monsters."
A Dynamic and Immersive World
The demo showcased diverse environments, from desert settlements to expansive biomes, populated by various monsters and hunter NPCs. This new approach eliminates timed missions, offering a more flexible hunting experience. Fujioka stressed the importance of world interaction: "We focused on interactions like monster packs pursuing prey and their conflicts with human hunters. These characters exhibit 24-hour behavior patterns, creating a more dynamic and organic feel."
Wilds also incorporates real-time weather changes and fluctuating monster populations. Director Tokuda attributed this dynamic world to advancements in technology: "Creating a massive, evolving ecosystem with more monsters and interactive characters presented a significant challenge. Environmental changes occur simultaneously—a feat previously unattainable."
The success of Monster Hunter World provided invaluable insights that shaped Wilds' development. Tsujimoto highlighted the importance of their expanded global reach: "We approached Monster Hunter World with a global perspective, prioritizing simultaneous worldwide release and extensive localization. This global focus helped us consider players unfamiliar with the series and how to attract them."
